OUR STORY

Mångata Design is my growing child. I am Sarah Leanne Trappe, born and raised in the North East of England and currently residing in the small coastal town of Seaham just South of the city of Sunderland. 

I gained a BA in Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University after a hiatus living in the city of Liverpool. I then went on to gain an MA in Philosophy whilst recovering from spinal surgery to treat my severe scoliosis. I continued to write and as my health improved began creating with other media again. I found therapeutic enjoyment working more sculpturally and started working with wood and then clay and cement. I found my outlook on life had shifted and I yearned more for calm and nature whilst simultaneously being drawn to rugged aesthetics. I found a kin with the ethos of Scandi design and lifestyle and (as you may notice from my product names) their language. It was here that Mångata was born. 

Since then I have relocated myself and Mångata Design (previously Mångata Nottingham) North,  back to the county of my birth and a new home by the suitably rugged yet beautiful East Durham coastline. 

Mångata Design now finds it’s business home in the wonderful creative hub: the BIS, Whitby Street studios in Hartlepool.

Mångata is an ever evolving design venture and unique, home decor and art store dedicated to putting their “hjärtanskär” (‘heart’s love’) into design. We strive to be as eco conscious as possible and continue to work towards growing in this area. Mångata’s designs strive to use recycled materials and natural materials where possible. All our packaging is as minimal and eco friendly as possible with zero plastic.
